Making a construction site a home...

...has been the work of the last few days. Yesterday it was getting a mower and mowing the lawn, which Rob actually enjoyed! The sound of a reel mower is actually fairly pleasing. Today, as Katie posted earlier, it was procuring a grill and doing some actual cooking. The grilling went superbly and "Double Whiskey Chicken" will be a regular fixture on the LBL table.

Here's what goes into this chicken, with the disclaimer that these recipes are unaltered and Rob's will be slightly different:
The whiskey sauce recipe can be found here.

The rub (from Weber's Real Grilling by Jaime Purviance):
4 teaspoons granulated onion
4 teaspoons granulated garlic
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

The second infusion of whiskey comes from Jack Daniel's® Wood Smoking Chips. Wonderful smoke, and they smell pretty fantastic by themselves!

It went very well with a bottle of Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale, although if you want to be functional after a bottle, you should probably find somebody to share it with.

Also cooking related, Sears called this morning with the news that the range we had ordered had arrived at the store. We went and picked it up and Rob spent the better part of an hour looking at the back panel with furrowed brows as if he knew what he was doing and then yelling at wires in the kitchen. When he emerged, not only did both the cooktop and the oven work, the clock worked too! The oven was used to cook biscuits and even the timer got a test.

All in all, fantastic day for food!
